HATS School IMKH 2011/2012 Wrapping Up

June 22, 2012 Posted by Karen Huxter 1 Comment

School is almost finished for this school year. Our three prescolaire classes, along with Grades 1 to 6 finished their exams last Friday. Our grade 7 and 8 students finished writing their exams today, Thursday, 21st. These students are now off until June 29th when they return to pick up their report cards.

Our grade 6 and grade 9 students continue to attend class this week and next. This is because they have to write the governmental exams which will take place later than usual this year – in July.

Luckner and Little Luckner

It has been a good year for the HATS school. I must, however, say I am very thankful that the year is almost finished. I am going to enjoy not going to the school for a few weeks before we must start registration again for school in September. Following registration we must purchase uniform fabric and cut it to various lengths to give to parents, so they can in turn have uniforms made for their children. Another huge job every summer is the purchase of text books, along with repair of as many as possible, so they can be reused.

I want to take time now to say a very big thank you to all those who sponsored a student again this past year. Your sponsorship fees enabled your student to continue to attend school. A big thank you to Education Haiti (Bev Chappelle) and to Every Child Counts (Rollie Herritt) for all the continuing work with sponsoring students for HATS. On behalf of all our sponsored students I say thank you very much.

Educating a student means giving that student, and his/her family, hope for a future. To many people who live around you, and to many who work with you, you may be just ‘one person’. But, to just one child in Haiti who needs an education, you are the world. May we continue to work together, for the betterment of the children in this area of the world.

I will never grow tired of seeing the children at school! It is always a joy to see them so excited to come and watch them clean the dust from their shoes before they come in! The littlest ones are sooooo cute and excited and the grade 7,8 & 9's try to look cool and not look excited!
