Day 2 for Team Texas is in the Books

February 18, 2017 Posted by HATS Visitors 2 Comments

Day 2 is in the books. We started off the day with what’s most important – devotional with the staff and the kids who aren’t in school. After that, it was off to work and to do all the things Karen wants Keith to do before he heads home. Not sure why she wants a hammock hung in the wood room of the water tower, but Keith insisted that it is a high priority job.

Morning devotions

Kyle, Julie, and the 3 youngsters painted the girls rooms in a special shade of “Tickled Pink.” TiDavid and TiKyle may have put more pink on each other than they did on the walls, but don’t tell Karen this, as she doesn’t like to waste paint.

Brooks repaired the basketball goal since the rim he installed 2 years ago has suffered and fallen apart after 2 years of entertaining JJ and Moise. (But haven’t we all?). Hopefully it lasts another 2 years.

New basketball hoop going up

Milford and David started a new company, Nance and Burrell Haitian Cabinetry. Their first project is the HATS Hilton Bathroom. Karen will let you know tomorrow if they’re good or if she’ll need to report them to the Better Business Bureau.

We also took advantage of as many break times as we could to play with the kids. Because, obviously – it’s all about the children. David taught TiLuc to shoot a basketball ?. There’s nothing that kid can’t do! Brooks did some bike repair with the “help” of Josie, Jofky, and Markenson. Thankfully, what should have taken 5 minutes only took 20 with their help. The boys played lots of basketball, and Molly got her hair done more than once.

Now this kid is started on basketball too

Bike repair. Precious helpers – two steps forward and three steps backwards.

We experienced something new this year. We had the privilege of watching the I.M.K.H. High School Soccer team take on another school. We pulled of a comeback 2-1 win. There are few things more fun that watching those boys play their hardest as they were rooted on by so many of their classmates. It was a priceless experience.

Lots of action

We’re going to bed tired. But it’s the best kind of tired, and we’re ready for another day of work tomorrow. Not sure what we’ll do, but Keith said something about installing a jacuzzi for Joan?

Love your blogs. Love your sense of humour. I can only imagine the comments between you and Keith and the laughter from the others.
Thank you for all the love you share and the work you do for the kids and Karen!
