Last Saturday dawned wet and soggy. Not the start we wanted for the PVG invitational golf tournament. The PVG has been an annual event organized by Peter van Gulik for family and friends which we have been a part of for several years. Last year it was decided to make this event a fundraiser for HATS – Hand Across the Sea.
On the drive to Ottawa the rain was so bad that I thought I was back in Haiti. Torrential to say the least!! Then came the call that the golf course was flooded and the event was cancelled. Then came another call that God had different plans and clearly wanted this to go ahead. The management at the closed course wanted to help us and found a nearby course that could take our 7 group tournament at about the same tee off time. So within an hour we were back up and running!
Peter and Donna Van Gulik, Bob and Liz Argent & Reg and Cathy Parsons are to be commended for their hard work organizing, getting prizes, recruiting players, collecting monies and encouraging the participants to support HATS.
There was a “Come From Away” team led by Roy Stanley who flew in from St. John’s for the weekend bring prizes and team shirts. The team – Marc (Face on Ya), Grace – (Knows Yer not Cute), Becky (My Duckie) and Roy (Yes B’Y).
Reg and Cathy now only fed and hosted the 30 people at their home they were also the tournament winners…. With Scott Van Gulik. Wow… impressive.
Thank you Peter for your vision and organization and commitment to making this event happen. Just over $1300 raiser to help the kids at HATS. Next year come join us…
