Haitian Real Life: Increased Costs = Hunger & Malnutrition

Haitian Real Life: Increased Costs = Hunger & Malnutrition

March 16, 2019 Posted by Karen Huxter 2 Comments

Greatly decreased Haitian dollar – Increase in food cost – Inability to purchase food = Empty tummies – Hunger – Malnutrition

This is real life for the Haitian people I know and love. Parents have struggled greatly to provide adequate food for their families for a very long time. The large decline in the value of the Haitian dollar to the US dollar has meant a large  increase in the cost of food and other necessary supplies.

Thank you to all who have donated funds to help us provide Love Gifts of food to help a little with the ongoing hunger problem. On March 1st Joan wrote a thank you blog with photos of food arriving, being prepared and starting to be picked up.

Today I am following with another thank you and more photos. It is not easy for many to be able to fully comprehend the seriousness of the hunger situation all around HATS (and throughout the country of Haiti). People I have known for many years, who have never asked anything of me, have come to the gate or I have spoken with them on my morning walks, in tears usually, about the suffering of their children and their inability to do anything about their hunger. I join them in tears but tears alone are not enough. I pray with them, give hugs, and whenever possible, by the gifting of funds to the HATS-Haiti Mission, I am able to give food. It is difficult to express the thankfulness that I feel in my heart for this loving help for these people. Thank you from Luckner too ‘on behalf of his people’. He says “Karen, everyone we see now are hungry.  All are suffering.”

We were able to provide food packages for more than 80 families in February. We hope to do likewise in April. All who picked up food were extremely thankful, often saying a tearful thank you.

Matthew 25:35 ‘I was hungry and you gave me  something to eat.’

Matthew 25:40 ‘Whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for me.’

May God bless each of you who have prayed for the country of Haiti, for the dire situation many there have found themselves in, and for the donation of funds to help alleviate a little of the suffering.

HATS-Haiti is ‘ALL  ABOUT  THE  CHILDREN’  but it is our partnership with our supporters that gets the job done.

With His love,

Karen

My heart is heavy as I read your blog about the food situation in Haiti. I then am reminded that God is able and will meet the needs of His people. I pray that financial aid will continue to be provided and the day will come that no one will be hungry. Thank-you Karen for all that you do and the love you give the children , it shows in their faces how much Jesus loves them .We never forget It’s all about the children. Always in our thoughts and prayers ,God is good.!!
