Newsletter from Karen Huxter (Hats-Haiti)

October 22, 2025 Posted by Karen Huxter 2 Comments

Hello to all of HATS-Haiti’s prayer supporters, school sponsors of students, financial supporters, and all of our followers.

I need to apologize for my lack of communication with you all.  I attempted MANY times to write to you to bring you up-to-date with our area of Haiti. Every time, however, before I got very far with it, I would be crying and sobbing. I would walk away, as facing what is happening and sharing it was too painful.

Now, with tears running down my face, I am literally forcing myself to write to you to request prayer support.  We need all our prayer supporters to pray and to please forward this to others who pray.

Haiti is in need of a lot of prayer and a lot of help. Please pray for this country with these beautiful and special people. I consider Haiti my country too, these are my people. I am heartbroken for what has been happening and is continuing to happen to these innocent people.

Things have been very difficult and extremely stressful in our area for quite some time.  Despite this situation, our school IMKH finished the school year in June with great results, thanks to Luckner’s guidance and teaching. Luckner worked hard this summer and our school was all fixed up, painted, and ready to reopen again this month.

Things, however, are extremely bad in what I lovingly call ‘our area’ (Chandelle, Coupon, Borel, Deschapelles, Verrettes). The bandits/gang members desperately want to take over, loot, crash, and burn everything in these places, including Hospital Albert Schweitzer, just as they have done in all the areas they have already taken over in Haiti.

The gang members/bandits have been kept out of our area by the dedication of those I call the Freedom Fighters who stand up against these cruel gang members who have been ruining Haiti. The Freedom Fighters have been trying to protect everyone and everything in our area, and some of the fighters have lost their lives while fighting for freedom.

I ask all who pray to please pray, pray, Pray for the Freedom Fighters, pray for all who live in this area, and for all those who have already left their homes in our area.  Those who have left and those who will be following have nowhere to go. They have headed, or are now heading, to the mountains with no food and no clothes, and nowhere to live. Nothing could go with them.

They will be hiding in bushes and trying to eventually fall asleep in the bushes. They have had to walk away from their homes, to try to not be killed.

Out of respect for these precious hurting/frightened people, I will not include any photos. These people are my people too. Haiti is my other country, my other home. I founded HATS-Haiti over 30  years ago, and for 25 years, I lived in Haiti full time. I have a deep love for the Haitian people.  My heart is breaking.

Thank you so very much for all your help for the work of HATS-Haiti over the years. Now I ask if you would please help with prayer for these beautiful, precious, innocent, people.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Karen
