We have some photos of our children at our Children’s Home, and in their uniforms at our school, IMKH.
Our children are well and continue to attend school thanks to HATS other director, my work partner and my friend, Luckner, who is continuing to do do a good job taking care of the mission and our school by himself. Our school continues to operate with our students receiving a good education.
It is still too dangerous for me to return to Haiti due to the gangs who continue to try to take control of the country. The beautiful innocent Haitian people continue to suffer and pay the price.
Our oldest, JJ, who graduated from our high school two years ago, continues to work at HATS with Luckner. He has also been attending a technicial school in a nearby town, recently graduating as a plumber. Luckner’s son, Estradson, also graduated as a plumber when JJ did. These two young men will definitely benefit from their plumbing trades. They are glad to learn different trades that can help them in the future. JJ had learned a lot of plumbing skills from Luckner before attending the school. JJ started following Luckner around and wanting to help ever since Luckner joined me in the work of the mission in 2005.
Luckner, made my heart very happy over the years as he demonstrated a lot of patience with JJ, bonding with him, seeing his interest and possibilities, taking him under his wing and teaching him many valuable lessons, and ways he could assist the mission when older. That showed me that Luckner himself was a born leader.
Thank you Luckner for all the love, care and teaching you have put into JJ and the other children at HATS.
Luc and I continue to miss the children in Haiti soooo very much, and try to have patience while we wait, hope, and pray for improvement in the country and it’s serious insecurity problem.
Meanwhile Luc continues to do well here in Canada. Thankfully we see the end of this present school year, grade 10 for Luc. Two more years – grades 11 and 12 for him to do and then he hopes to attend a Tech School. I thank God daily for how well Luc has done and continues to do here in Newfoundland.
He loves to be as he says ‘A Haitian Newfie’. He has the Newfoundland expressions down pat, continues to do well in school, and still adores soccer. He is looking forward to the end of this school year and the start of soccer again after Canada Day.
His feet have become his hands. He continues to do everything needed with his feet and does it well. He has a joyful attitude all the time and he thanks God regularly that he can do what others do, just do it all differently. He says, ‘Life is good’, and he is determined to to keep it that way.
May God bless, strengthen and keep all of you safe.
Love, Karen
