Although Hurricane Matthew is now history and the next hurricane has been and gone, there are still many who are suffering in Haiti because of the destruction caused by Matthew. Here in the town of Deschapelles, where we are located, the work to help those in need is going on.
Luckner Estimable, the principal of HATS school is heading up a team of friends and colleagues to gather, sort and send clothing and food that is needed. Over this past week the library at the school has been transformed into a collections depot.
The amount of food that you see in the pictures will have doubled by the time the truck pulls out on Friday to make its delivery. Thank you to so many of you that helped with your donations.
Thanks to many generous people, we are able to contribute to the need. Towels and sheets, children’s clothing and toys are going to end up in the hands of children and families that have nothing. Many thanks go to those that so faithfully send these things to HATS.
I had a lot of help from three very keen boys, Judel, Dieunel and Moise. They were the muscle behind getting the things from the depot to the truck and from the truck to the school.
Luckner’s team is again working today to get things ready to ship out. There has been an overwhelming response from the community, everyone giving what they can. For people who themselves have very little, it is amazing to see their generosity.
The clothing that the children are holding up in the picture is an item of their own clothing. When they heard that there were children that had nothing, off they went and got something that they could give. I hope that this is just the beginning of a life of giving to others. ?
