Most of the benches around the compound and at the church were made 3 years ago by Al Ball, Gary Ash and me. They are now showing some signs of wear and tear so my young team and I decided to do some repairs. As soon as the tools come out there is an audience for my work and each job has a different team. The conversations (In English, French and Creole ) go something like this:
Don’t touch.
Where’s the screwdriver?
What’s this for?
Don’t touch.
Why are you doing that?
My turn.
Watch your fingers.
Don’t touch.
You get the idea…
BICYLES
Msta. Keif’s bicycle shop is open 6 days a week for tire repair, chain reattachment, brake adjustment, seat adjustment, installation and removal of training wheels etc. Sunday’s I only do tire pumping. I am trying to get the older boys to learn how to so some of these repairs but all the kids want to help. Today’s apprentices include Dieunel, Josie, Sandra, Anne, Judel, Karena and Jonathan.
At 3:00 there is always a union mandated cookie and water break. Dickieson decided that I was the most comfortable place to sit and chat and he shared his cookie and crumps with me.
Man that boy can yammer up a storm, he’s got a lot to say.
BOOKS
Meanwhile, inside the admin building Professor Joan is hard at work with her star pupil Ti Luc. They keep regular school hours and Joan runs a tight ship. Ti Luc is now registered in a Canadian home schooling course and is working hard and making good progress. Thank you to Beate for getting the textbooks.
