Wow, what a week and weekend.
Last week we were all hopping doing the student pictures and letters to the sponsors which need to go out before Christmas. That involves taking the pictures, translating the kids’ notes, scanning the letters, cataloguing pictures and leteers, and loading onto DropBox. From there the photos are merged with the letters and e-mailed to the sponsors. It certainly is a team effort with Liette co-ordinating from Calgary and Karen, Joan, Linda, Bob and I pitching in from here. So far 400+ students completed. The task now is to finish with the inconsiderate students who were off sick and absent last week.
One advantage Joan and I have of being here at this time is actually meeting our sponsored students. Vaina wrote out her letter thanking us and then hand delivered it with a hug. Priceless.
With all the activity at the school we were looking forward to a quiet Saturday BUT, Friday afternoon the well water pump quit and we had no water on the compound for 24 hours. Luckily we still had a good supply of drinking water and no one was desperate enough to go and bathe in the canal. Bright and early Saturday we headed to ST. Marc and thankfully we were able to find a replacement BUT it was more expensive than planned and we could only pay for 75% of the cost. Again thankfully the owner of the store obliged by extending credit (an act almost unheard of in Haiti) and we went back on Monday to pay the balance. Bob did a great job installing the new pump and I was more thankful than most he was still here. Everyone was happy and clean at church on Sunday.
It is less than 4 weeks till Christmas so time to start putting up the exterior lights around the houses. I love putting up lights in this weather. I don’t even want to think about what the weather will be like in Montreal in 2 weeks when I am putting our lights out!!
