Days 3 & 4 were the Weekend

February 20, 2017 Posted by HATS Visitors 2 Comments

Weekends are for rest. For recuperation. For recreation. For sabbath. Except for Team Texas. The DG made us work. But that’s why we’re here, apparently.

Brooks, David, Milford and Kyle, also known as Texas Landscaping and Vine Removal Services, cleaned out the shade over Keith’s work bench. Why? Because those vines were taking over the compound. A few more weeks and Dickieson may have gone missing. We tore down and cut and trimmed and hung wire and built until it became manageable. It looks great. And hopefully it won’t be long until it produces beautiful new grapes.

Lift and trim. Looking much better.

Milford helps with cleaning up of grape vine by sitting around on high

Dickie is needed with his measuring tape. Is it too much to expect a support post to touch the ground?

After lunch, Brooks put on a magic ? show so that the kids would quit asking him to make rocks disappear. He seems to have inspired some kids to do their own magic. But if Jonathan has to make a trip to the Schweitzer Hospital to have a rock removed from his ear, please don’t hold Brooks responsible.

Karen rewarded us for our work with a trip to see Luckner’s beautiful new home site. We also made sure to play an intense game of hockey, which the kids won due to the outstanding defense of Duniel and TiLuc.

Sunday morning began with the church service we look forward to year round. David preached a great message on our Heavenly Father. But he was overshadowed by a beautiful performance by the HATS kids. After church, we thought we were finally going to get that weekend rest. And rest we did, if by rest you mean getting climbed on by kids. Molly did get to visit Kay Timbermart Salon and Day Spa to get her hair done.

Receiving a cold drink as you go into the hot sun is greatly appreciated

We also rested with a water balloon ??fight, which was perfect for the heat of the day ?. Our goal was to get the kids as tired as possible before our annual North America vs Haiti soccer match. The back and forth battle ended with a miraculous 2-2 tie (according to the boys. We technically scored 3 goals, but if you’ve ever played soccer with JJ, you won’t be surprised to find out that one of our goals didn’t count…)

After the match, we retreated to the compound to hand out brand new HATS shirts to all the kids and to spend some time in prayer with each of these special kids.

Team brought new HATS t-shirts

We crammed as much work and fun into these 2 days as possible. It may not have been restful for our bodies. But boy, was it restful for our souls.

About HATS Visitors

HATS – Haiti encourages individuals and work teams to travel to Haiti to be a part of the work we are doing. Those who come to Haiti are given the opportunity to join in construction projects, visit in the local community, spend time with the children, and minister in church. You can help us in our work for the most needy and most vulnerable members of Haiti’s population. Come be transformed by seeing the need and being a part of meeting that need. Be part of the story

Those vines above the workbench bugged me for a solid month, I must have hit my head a hundred times. Thanks so much.
