Quiet Library Time ?

Quiet Library Time ?

March 15, 2017 Posted by HATS Visitors 2 Comments

It’s so good to be back at HATS! Last spring Mike and I (Nicki) were here at HATS for 3 months. During the past 9 months that we have been back home in Canada we have never stopped thinking of those we met while in Haiti. So it was pretty exciting to not only return but to bring 3 of our friends with us!

Each weekday morning starts with prayer with the children before they head off to school. Then we followed them to school to take part in the school’s morning devotions.

There were a few less kids at school devotions this morning as there was a big rainstorm the night before and this means that the only uniform they own may have been soaked in the storm.

It was pretty cool to see the second floor of the school built as it was only a hope that it would be built last time we were here. Now it is full of children writing exams. The HATS school now goes up to grade 12 and has in total more than 500 students.

With a pile of kids and some crazy heat outside it seemed like a good idea to try some quiet library time. We brought out the books that many friends donated and the kids laid on the cool concrete floor and read.

Then it was time to get adventurous and try to get a family photo with Mama. Keith got the ladder and with a little (no, a LOT!) of effort we got all the kids into one room with clean clothes and faces and attempted to get a good photo. Stay tuned for a future blog post for the final results.

We can’t fail to mention the great food that Roselene is making for us. Here is one of my favorites – fritay (fried food). Okra, plantains, potatos (both Haitian and North American), and of course chicken.

Yum!!

Yum!!

Oh, it’s so good to be back!

About HATS Visitors

HATS – Haiti encourages individuals and work teams to travel to Haiti to be a part of the work we are doing. Those who come to Haiti are given the opportunity to join in construction projects, visit in the local community, spend time with the children, and minister in church. You can help us in our work for the most needy and most vulnerable members of Haiti’s population. Come be transformed by seeing the need and being a part of meeting that need. Be part of the story

Great to hear from you Nicki. That is my favourite dinner too! Oh how I would love to share that with you. Please tell Roselene that I saw the photo and it made me hungry for her fritay.
Did it stay quiet for the library time? A lot of them really love the books.
I am living this trip with you, it feels sooo good!

So glad you and Mike have arrived back at HATS. That is my favourite meal as well, second for me is macaroni and cheese. Stay safe and enjoy. Received the money yesterday from your Church for the paint.
