Hey all, it’s Beate. As you already know, I got to have the one and only Karen and Luc stay with me in Toronto. I can’t begin to tell you how excited I was to have these two special to my heart-amazing-super fantastic friends stay with me. In fact, they were barely off the plane, and I whipped them up the CN Tower. Luc was fearless! He went on that glass floor like it was nothing, and he “encouraged” me (by literally dragging me!!) to join him. Karen was not too keen; although, she peeped over the edge, she preferred to hang back and take pictures.
The next day, Luc and I hung out at the Ripley’s Aquarium, which was a first for me too. We went around the underwater tunnel 3 times. It was magical watching Luc enjoy the experience of seeing sharks swim right over top of us.
One of my favourite times was taking Luc to school with me. The students at Whitchurch Highlands P.S. have heard about Luc and HATS for years. It was incredible how my kids made sure to make Luc feel welcome. The minute the kids got off the bus, some snuck into the school to meet him and took him outside for a quick game of soccer. Darian observed how I gave Luc water, and soon after, took the initiative to do so himself. He also fed him the ice cream that Rohin bought him at recess.
Here are some messages for Luc from my grade 6 class:
The first time I saw Luc I was so excited to talk to him and find out his story. When we were all in the classroom and working on writing with our feet, I looked over at Luc and he was drawing and writing full sentences that looks better then our handwriting. It was then that I realized that Luc was the one teaching us not the other way around, and during that day I realized how smart, fun and unique Luc was and how lucky I was to meet and learn from him.
~SabinaTi Luc was very excited about coming to Whitchurch Highlands Public school, being able to play soccer with friends and having a great time overall. I was very excited after hearing all the stories Ms.Rufft had told us about him. During the morning when class first started, everyone was smiling ear to ear and that smile lasted for the whole entire day. Ti Luc showed everyone how he writes and draws with his feet and everyone tried to do tasks with their feet. Everyone agreed that Ti Luc is very talented. During recess, the class played a good hard game of soccer having lots and lots of fun. This was the most fun day in the entire school year. See you next time Ti Luc!
~Claire KI saw Luc write with his feet and I was amazed. Miss Rufft let us try, and all i could do was a bunch of scribbles. He is also really good at the games on the school ipad. The way he uses his feet blows me away.
~AnishGetting to know Luc was one of the most exciting and interesting days of my life. From playing soccer with him to watching him write with his feet. He is a very inspiring person. I hope we get to met him again.
~GeorgiaThe night before Luc came, I kept on telling my parents about it. They got a bit annoyed with my pestering, but I couldn’t help it. When I got on the bus, everyone was talking about him coming. As soon as I got off the bus I was waiting at the door with the other kids for the bell to ring to go inside. We all wanted to see Luc and how he does work with his feet. My classmates and I were so amazed at how he writes with his feet. At recess I went out to play soccer with Luc. Luc was showing a couple classmates and I his amazing soccer moves. I had a great experience with Luc and I hope to see him again.
~VictoriaMeeting luc was a lot of fun throughout the whole day, to playing soccer with him to him teaching us how to write with our feet and making mother’s day gift with him. He was very inspiring to all of our class and I can’t wait to see him again.
~Claire SI had an amazing time with Luc. Over the time of the day I realized that he may be a bit different on the outside but is the same as you and me on the inside. He has a great sense of humor, a big heart and he is just an overall amazing person. He may have cerebral palsy but that doesn’t stop Luc from being a unique person.
~BlakeHonestly, meeting Luc was one of the best things that happened this year. Luc was just so happy the whole day, he loved showing off his talents of soccer & writing with his feet. I loved how when Luc was writing with his feet we had an opportunity to do the same. I wish that Luc could’ve stayed for the rest of the year. Well I hope that I would meet Luc, or see Luc again.
~CelinaMeeting Luc was a great experience. This was new for me because I never met a person like him. I promise, every time I looked at him he was always smiling! And don’t forget his soccer skills! He was scoring like a pro! It was amazing to see how he writes without his hands! And imagine how long it might have taken him to learn that skill. You should see how my attempt to writing with my feet… It was not good.
~SheilaWell I didn’t actually meet Luc, but judging by are class pictures everyone looked super excited and happy. Everyone look excited and appreciative to see him. I really wish I was there to meet such a cool person like Luc.
~GabeIt was a pleasure meeting Luc! It was fun and interesting watching him write with his feet, and especially play soccer! He’s so unique and inspiring!
~SerenaHaving Luc in the class was like having a new student in the class but he was only here for one day and I wish that one day lasted. Luc was so fun and he was amazing at soccer we got goals we passed the ball and he was so nice. Who cares if he has a disability he is still a human and we shouldn’t judge someone because they are different. I wish Luc will come back.
~SamMy favorite moment with Luc was when he put the soccer ball through my legs then scored. One really cool thing about Luc was he does everything with his feet and he is amazing with his feet.
~BrodyMy favourite part with Luc what’s when he was playing soccer with us. Because he was really fun to play with because he can still do many thing that other people can’t and he was really good at it too.
~AdamWhen I first came into the school on Friday, I went straight to Ms.Rufft and asked where Luc was. Luke is a great kid and I will never forget that day. ~Tyler H.My first experience with Luc was before school started and I was organizing the instruments in the music room when Luc came over to me and said “hi.” “Hi Luc,” I said back. Fast forward to later in the day to first recess. I asked Luc if he wanted an ice cream. He said YES YES YES!!! Luckily I brought an extra $1.25.

I am so happy that my daughter Shawna, sister Sabine and niece Rachel also got to meet Karen and Luc. We all celebrated Mother’s Day together. All in all, I will cherish the moments we had here forever. To be able to see Luc experience special things is a blessing. Karen is a terrific mother, and I’m honoured to be part of this dynamic duo.
