The last few days around here have been busy and filled with fun! I have really been enjoying getting to know the children better and seeing a little more of the area.
Friday was a special day for all the children. Four of the oldest had the opportunity to participate in the school’s annual beach day. The students were so excited for the day! There was a buzz of energy as we went over to see the students off. After the three buses were on their way, Karen and I headed back to do some work and prepare for an afternoon of fun with the rest of the children. We set up the dress-up clothes for the younger children and they put on some amazing outfits! After trying on many different outfits, they were ready to go and we turned on some music and paraded around the yard. We had so much fun and there was so much laughter. A special snack, some time playing with blocks and an afternoon walk filled out a great afternoon. The students returned from the beach tired but happy. Overall it was a pretty great day for everyone.
Saturday morning started with a beautiful walk by the river. It was wonderful to get out in the cool of the morning to walk and spend time with some of the older children. I was then taken to see a few different things in the surrounding area. We visited a tree farm where all types of trees and plants are being grown in order to give them to farmers in the mountains or for local parks. The next stop was a quick trip to see the hustle and bustle of the market which was followed by a drive up to the Albert Schweitzer hospital.
We had another beautiful walk by the canal Saturday evening – feeding goats, climbing trees, eating snacks. We wrapped up the day by doing some preparation for church and a birthday party. With lots of help we blew up about 150 balloons, packed up cookies and got ourselves ready for Sunday morning. Once again we had lots of laughs and it’s probably one or my favourite moments of the trip so far.
Well, that’s it for now folks. Stayed tuned for our Sunday stories.
