This is my 14th trip to Haiti and I never tire of the place, always looking forward to the day we leave Yarmouth, to head back to Haiti.

We had an uneventful trip until we got to the PaP Airport. It was total bedlam in that place. There was 282 on our Air Canada flight, a large Air Transat flight, another from American Airlines and one from Sunshine Air. All were unloading and only one carousel working. The bags came around three deep. Two hundred people crowded around, each with a cart. The bags were jamming the conveyor which fed the carousel so the Porters were taking the bags off and putting them in the corner. So you have all these people crowding the carousel looking for a bag that will never appear again if you missed it the first pass.

Luckily I figured it out pretty quick and found all four of our bags and one of Jim’s in the pile on the floor. Then it was another ordeal to get our carts to the exit. Finally got there and could not find my luggage tags. You cannot leave the Airport unless they verify your tags.

A little grease and we were out to meet Daniel who was nowhere to be found. (Editor’s Note – Daniel had been caught in a blokese and all visitors know they are NOT to leave the airport until they are with Daniel.)  What do we do know, once you are out you cannot get back in. We called Karen and eventually Daniel found us, we crossed somewhere on the way out. Not a good situation to be alone in that mass of people all looking for something or someone.

The trip back to HATS was good and we picked up some mangoes on the way. I was sick the entire trip but that is not unusual. Jim and Sandra enjoyed the trip immensely.

Once on the Compound we were greeted by Karen, Jocelyn and all the children. We had supper and did some unpacking, before crashing for the night.

Welcome Back Home

All of us have been working hard. Sandra is busy at everything, Jim and I finished the sewer line to the apartment. Ran out of parts so a trip to the plumbing store was needed. Lots of supplies, but had to hunt and peck to find it. Came home with everything we needed. So nice to see Jocelyn here, she is such a help and a joy to work with.

The older kids and us walked early this morning. We saw a beautiful sunrise.

The kids were all off the compound for the day, spending time with Papa and Roselore.  Saw a little boy outside Luckner’s new place playing with his truck.

Enjoyed your blog Dickie ,you sure have the stories to tell, main thing you arrived safely. I was praying for you all to have a safe trip. Jocelyn must be happy to have the sewer hooked up to her apartment, good job done and delighted to have you there visiting .I know you are busy so thank you for taking time out to let us know what’s happening at HATS. Thank you Lord for volunteers and reminding us every day it’s all about the children. Take care ,be safe and enjoy the warmth while we freeze in -5 C weather , ,the snow is gone for now but COLD. God is good !!Always in our prayers. Wendy JOY

Great blog and wonderful to see the work coming along for Jocelyn’s apartment.
Lots of other jobs on the list too no doubt. Enjoy every minute.
The picture of that little boy’s truck show the ingenuity of the Haitian people and how they are content with what they have.
