One of the greatest gifts you can give someone is what HATS calls a
‘Love Gift’. You can give the person whom you love a gift by giving to
those who are hungry. I am always in tears as people come to the
HATS-Haiti Mission to pick up their Love Gift, as they are so thankful
and appreciative. Many hungry people rush off to go cook a good meal for
their family or themselves.
We had almost all the Love Gifts for the sponsored students distributed
before we left Karen but a few remain for her to do and then she starts
doing more for the hungry people in the community.
Our time passes all too quickly while there. Our last few days found us
all scurrying around to finish things still undone and Luc and I worked
at his Science until, as Luc put it, “my head hurts”! We did get it
finished! Now on his own he will review and use his IPad to look up the
planets, stars, galaxies, constellations and space travel that we
learned about. He will enjoy that and I bet his head won’t hurt!
I am at home in Yarmouth as I finish this blog. What a ride we had back
to Port Au Prince airport. Traffic was the worse I have ever experienced
there and at times, many times, there was not daylight to be seen
between us and other vehicles, motos, donkeys, people and wheelbarrows.
It is always hard to say goodbye to the children, staff and to the two
ladies who do the cooking and take care of us BUT so much harder to say
goodbye to my sister, as we leave her there alone, to handle far more
than any one person should ever try to handle. Help comes to her in
January when Keith and Joan arrive back for a couple of months, we are
all so thankful to them for their help each year. They are a tremendous
help plus Keith’s sense of humour provides some good laughs and light
moments in each day.
Thank you to all the great people that donated gifts and money to
purchase goodies for the 22 stockings we filled and 85 gift bags for the
children at church. You are a blessing!
