Coconuts!
I may be using a straw but my shirt is clean

Coconuts!

February 4, 2019 Posted by Keith Wight 5 Comments

One day last week we had real treat. Fresh coconuts!! ?? There are a couple of trees on the orphanage compound and at the school.

One of our coconut trees

Eugene who works at the school cut our coconuts down. He was also responsible for cutting the tops off them for the juice and then cutting the coconuts in half for us to carve out the fruit. Eugene must be very good at his job, after all he cut all those coconuts with a machete and he still has all his fingers!!

The party

The kids/locals drink the juice straight from the coconut. The foreigners/me used a straw.

I may be using a straw but my shirt is clean

The children are always so appreciative of anything and everything extra or special that is done for them. They are patient waiting their turn as usually the youngest gets the treat first and then the others in chronological order. I was dying, hoping they didn’t run out before they got to me.

Waiting patiently
Happiness is directly related to me ssiness for Markenson and Dickieson
Good times

We had a few left over so those got taken to Papa Luckner’s house to share with his family. Everyone shares in this area and nothing is wasted…. Good lessons for sure.

Mama Karen delivering th e coconuts Haitian style

Stay tuned.

Yum! They are so good and my shirt is never clean and I must be related to Dickieson and Markenson because I look like them when I am finished and I get every lick of meat out!
    Any mangoes ripe yet Keif?
