The school compound is only 3 meters from the orphanage compound. All day you can hear the kids in their classrooms, at work and outside playing. They seem to do a lot of their learning by memorizing and repeating by rote. We can hear the kids chanting their responses as a group in class. That is also the way the kids here practice their homework. It sounds very musical, so I thought, why not a production of HATS – the Musical?
Seriously!
In fact, I have arranged the first song. You know the tune. Sing along.
(With apologies to Sharon, Lois and Bram!!)
VERSE 1 –
Skidamarink a dink a dink,
Skidamarink a doo,
I love homework!
Skidamarink a dink a dink,
Skidamarink a doo,
I love homework.
I love it with my brothers
I love it all alone.
I love it with Madame Joan
And sitting on a bench;
Oh, Skidamarink a dink a dink,
Skidamarink a doo,
I love homework!
VERSE 2 –
Skidamarink a dink a dink,
Skidamarink a doo,
I love homework.
Skidamarink a dink a dink,
Skidamarink a doo,
I love homework
I love it on my laptop
And with Madame Yolane,
I love it with my sisters
And sitting on my bed;
Oh, Skidamarink a dink a dink,
Skidamarink a doo,
I love homework!
Cut. Applause. Curtain
Stay tuned.
