Four More Awesome Children

Four More Awesome Children

May 14, 2020 Posted by Karen Huxter 2 Comments

Now to tell you a little about four more awesome children Mama Karen loves and misses a great deal.

Dieunel Mercius, age 13 and Ti Luckner  (Luc) Huxter age 14
Since the day of Dieunel’s arrival to join our family and continuing every year since Dieunel and Ti Luc have been loving brothers and best friends. Luc has been a Canadian as well as Haitian for five years now. Since then they get together only once or twice a year but that has in no way diminished the strong bond between these two fine boys. Ti  Luc loved on Dieunel a lot when he nervously arrived to his new home. Dieunel quickly loved Ti Luc in return and has always been a big help to Ti Luc. Since Ti Luc could walk well enough to join our walks Dieunel has always had his arm around him for support. Many times he happily pushed Ti Luc on his special bike, and has willingly given generously of his time to keep an eye on Ti Luc. These two love life and both love to laugh and have fun. Everyone in our HATS family will tell you that Luc (Ti Luckner) will always be an important part of the HATS-Haiti family.  It would be too difficult to write about these two boys separately as when together they are practically inseparable.

Ti Luc (Ti Luckner) has the same name as Papa Luckner which means he is ‘Little Luckner in Haiti’ (Luckner Junior in Canada). Ti Luc, when known as Alexandre, at age 3, decided on his own that he would be called Luckner as he wanted to be a ‘little Luckner’. He refused to acknowledge, or respond to, anyone unless he was called Ti Luckner. This boy was determined at a young age. Thus the eventual legal name change.

Dieunel, like Leica, came to our Children’s Home, at age 2, from an orphanage that was closing. Dieunel has always been a sweet, obedient, child with a lovely personality. He has been a big help to me in other ways besides all the help for his buddy Ti Luc. He is helpful to the housemothers and is a good big brother to all the younger children. He loves to have fun and especially loves soccer and  ball hockey. Like Luc in Canada, Dieunel is doing grade 8 this year at our HATS school, IMKH. There is a year age difference in these boys, but are in the same grade now as Luc took his a year off regular schooling to focus on English while waiting in Haiti to become a Canadian citizen. Dieunel is a bright kid who does well in school, especially so when he works at it.

Judel Pierre
Judel, age 11 (turning 12 in August) joined our family when approx 1 1/2. We were delighted to welcome him but he was a tad overwhelmed and frightened at first as he was brought to me when we had 14 extra white people onsite, a team from NS.  This little guy was warmly welcomed to our Children’s Home family, from the same orphanage as Dieunel and Leica, around the same time period. Judel, too, likes to play, laugh, kick a soccer ball, actually choosing to do these things when he is supposed to do school work. Judel has been known to kick a soccer ball anywhere and everywhere, even inside the Boy’s Home, which ended in unhappy results.  For several years Judel has been a little too adept at trying to shirk and evade school work. It has, however, always caught up to this sweet boy. Like Dieunel he is helpful with Ti Luc when we are in Haiti. He is helpful to the housemothers when needed. Judel does like to help the younger children and is often seen helping some of the older ones quite often too.

Jofky Moleon
Jofky,10 (will turn 11 next month), joined our family at the HATS-Haiti Children’s Home, when 1 1/2. Jofky actually has a dad,  who is blind and had no way of taking care of his son. There apparently was no family to help. Jofky’s birth mother left him with his dad, going to parts unknown when Jofky was quite little. His dad came requesting we take his son as he had no one to help and the boy was going downhill health wise. After Luckner and I decided to accept Jofky, his dad brought him to the mission and sat tearfully in my office holding and praying for his son. Like Judel, Jofky is very good at evading any school work. There are quite a few hiding places in the mission compound and I think Jofky has used them all when he is called to study or do homework. He loves playing with the other children, climbing, and kicking a soccer ball. His voice can often be heard giving a few girls a rough time, but he has found out on many occasions that can backfire.

Mark 10: 16 ‘And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.’

Thank you for remembering all these children, and Luckner trying to do all the administrative work, on top of all his own responsibilities, and also doing some of the jobs of the housemothers who are off due to Covid.

HATS-Haiti is  ALL ABOUT THE CHILDREN

Stay tuned for the next blog about Karena; Anne; Sandra and Magdala

God bless you all. Stay safe everyone.

Karen

I love to see the photos of them and realize how much they have grown. I love these 4 boys and enjoy spending time with them. They are so much alike in some ways and so different in others and keep you on your toes always. Miss seeing them this year.
