HATS-Haiti School is Open for the 2026-27 Year

HATS-Haiti School is Open for the 2026-27 Year

October 2, 2026 Posted by Karen Huxter No Comments

Hello Everyone,

It is our pleasure to let you know that our school, Institution Mixte Karen Huxter (IMKH) Officially opened on September 14. Below are some photos of the first few weeks of school.

We are forever grateful for Met Luckner, our Director for Hands Across the Sea in Haiti. By organizing and hiring workers to make the necessary repairs and upgrades to the school, purchasing the materials for school uniforms, organizing food for the students’ daily meal, finding teaching supplies, meeting with all the parents for registration, and so much more, Met Luckner has once again made hope possible for the children.

No matter how dire the situation is in Haiti, never give up hope. Children and youth need hope, everyone needs hope. Life must go on in these terrible times, and education is still one of  the best ways to help give hope.

Met Luckner along with our founder Karen Huxter have agreed that we need to support the children in the Deschapelles area as much as we can, and keeping Institution Mixte Karen Huxter open is one way that students can receive some “normalcy” in these horrific times. In fact, Met Luckner and Karen are proud to report the remarkable success of our grade 9 and 13 students.

Here is a note from Karen:

In Haiti all students in grade 9 and grade 13 (graduation year) must write extremely difficult government exams. They must pass these government exams in grade 9 to be able to continue to senior secondary grades 10 to 13.

36 students wrote grade 9 and ALL these amazing students passed. And of our grade 13 students, 80% passed their final year.

This success is greatly due to the fact that Met Luckner devotes at least 6 weeks of Saturday and Sunday classes to prepare the students for their exams. Thank you Met Luckner!

And to our Sponsors, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you for ensuring that this all is possible. Thank you for continuing your donations and sponsoring students year after year. It does make a difference. You make a difference.

Karen
